ABOUT ME

Biography

Ellen Feng is a sophomore from Montgomery County, PA, studying history at University of Maryland.

Some of her interests include figure skating, the fine arts, and sustainable fashion. Much of her art and historical interest lies in Asian culture. She is half-Chinese and her blended cultural identity is what drives her interests. In history, Ellen seeks to better understand the Asian American story and how to break the model minority status. In art, Ellen takes influence from Asian art styles and tries to show what living as a mixed person is like in America, usually combining American and Chinese culture in her paintings.

After graduation, Ellen is unsure what she would like to pursue as a career. However, she is sure that she wants to help people and protect the rights of minority groups, using history to assist with this goal.

As a College Park Arts Scholar, Ellen is excited to learn about different forms of art not normally exposed to her and participating in the Arts Capstone project. Last year, she was introduced to ways to up-cycle old clothes and it has become a full blown interest for her. She also hopes to help the incoming Arts Scholars freshman as a Peer Mentor, acting as a guide and a friend. While Ellen doesn’t have a concrete goal post-graduation, she hopes that during her sophomore year, her plan will become more solidified.
